Notes
One of the delights of a soundboard mix is that it occasionally gives you an up-close-and-personal earview of instruments that might otherwise go if not unnoticed then under-appreciated. Thus the second night in Madrid and it's the percussion and allsorts that threaten to take centre stage during a good rendition of The Talking Drum. LTIA2, which had up until now been closing the sets is a great a starter as it was back in the day.

Frame By Frame gets a bit lost inside itself after the last verse and you can almost hear the anxious counting going on as various players attempt to get themselves back into the correct position. No wonder multiple Crimson Distress honking can be heard at the end. A cracking version regardless of the Russian roulette of spinning notes.

Lovely to hear The Sheltering Sky manifest itself once again. The band had played it very occasionally played during 1995’s tour and of course it had been a regular feature in the 80s. It’s relative rarity makes it very special. Trey Gunn takes the first proper solo with beautifully transcendent results and Fripp’s ‘tron-sounding setting is nothing short of sublime.

For about three weeks that I have this in my ears.
One of those memorable Concertoi where all the pieces of the set are reproduced in a sublime manner. If you’ve wondered Qualle was Trey’s role in this incarnation of the band will find the answer here. Trey is Innarrivabile!
