… I’d like to request that the Mar. 12, 2003 Massey Hall, Toronto show be made available for download.

I was there for that one, the last time I would see/hear the King it seems, and would absolutely love to hear it again. The audience (not me!) seemed a little casual/distracted and I recall things getting off to a shaky start with a Crimson clam in the first minute of the first number, ’TCoL’ if memory serves. I also recall, however, "Facts of Life’ ’LTiA4" and "ProzaKc’ all being very powerful and tight. "TPtB2" was a pastoral pleasure and I recall ’Thrush’ being wonderful as well…

RF Diary for March 12th. 2003

… rock performance in our contemporary commercial culture may no longer be able to achieve what is of value to me…

It is not necessary for me to like my work. I do not have to enjoy it very much, although occasional joy is necessary for us to keep actively engaged within any line of endeavour. Like & dislike doesn't touch what is real. Joy does. Joy is when the part of us that recognizes what is real, finds itself present in the real world. This is a convoluted way of expressing what is the simplest of simple.

One can have joy within a situation that one dislikes: joy is qualitative, refreshing, cleansing, redemptive, renewing. But carelessness renders nascent joy stillborn. And this really really pisses me off. I have come a long way, spent a lot of time, undergone a lot of joylessness, getting to this place to have a small shot at what is right, and then having it pinned to earth.

10.28 E-flurrying done. Off to London.

18.55 In a series of several recent crap days, today is, subjectively and personally, a seriously crap day. Professionally, however, it has been a day of forward motion.

Leaving at 11.20 for a 16.00 meeting with Mr. iTunes Power Possessor Numero Two at iTunes London HQ; and joining David at 15.15 for a catch-up and coffee beforehand. One-and-a-half hours to cover three miles on the M40 due to a lorry that caught fire; arriving in London after 3’35”; unloading the car of some of the endless stream of plastic packing boxes from the Piddle; in time to be 45-60 minutes late for a 30-45 minute meeting. I called David: over to you.

Four hours and 35 minutes after leaving Bredonborough…

… setting off back to Bredonborough.

A call along the way from David: the meeting was successful with good developments.

Arriving c. 18.03, seriously dribbling and pitiful.

WillyFred came downstairs to see who had arrived to play with him, and decided it was not me.

20.35    Minx back from her four-hour meeting c. 19.30 and went straight to her office for e-mail and business.

Here in the Cellar computing, a MinxBleating of comparable pitiability from a higher level summons me to gentle.

Enough.

Dribble.
